Children are an integral part of the St. Giles community. We seek to help our children experience God’s love through our programs.
The young people of St. Giles are actively involved in the life of the parish in many different ways. They attend Church (Sunday) School and serve in worship as Acolytes and Readers. From time to time they enact the scripture readings, bringing new life to ancient words. Their active and visible participation helps to make worship here a rich experience.
Some work with younger children by assisting in the church school and caring for toddlers. The children participate in parish social events and community outreach efforts, such as the Moraga July 4th celebration, the annual Pear Festival, and the family giving tree program.
Sunday School and Childcare
- Sunday school for children ages 4-11. During the summer, from June 15 – Labor Day, Sunday School is suspended. It will begin the first Sunday in September.
- Child care for infants and toddlers.
Our Sunday school emphasizes Godly Play, a Montessori interpretation of religious education. Godly Play provides an imaginative approach to working with children – an approach that supports, challenges, nourishes and guides their spiritual quest. We enter into parables, sacred stories and liturgy. We have small, intimate Sunday school classes that create an atmosphere of real learning, spirituality, friendship and fun. We incorporate crafts, artwork, and musical activities to supplement the curriculum. The children are encouraged to ask questions, have fun and participate in the liturgy as they grow in God’s love. You’ll be surprised that they enjoy Sunday school.
