Merry Christmas & Blessings in the New Year

Your Nativity, O Christ our God, has shone to the world the Light of wisdom! For by it, those who worshipped the stars, were taught by a Star to adore You, the Sun of Righteousness, and to know You, the Orient from on High. O Lord, glory to You!

Dear friends,
First, I want to thank all of you for such a delightful farewell potluck at Caroline and David Wood’s home. So much work went into the planning, coordinating of food, setup of chairs and the space, etc. Thank you to all who made that event such wonderful memory! And thank you for the beautiful framed icon of Saint Giles, the bottles of wine (7 Deadly Zins and Trinitas…how fitting!), for the several Saint Giles cards with sweet notes, and for your laying on of hands and prayers Sunday. I love you all so much and will really miss you all. This time of transition is strange, having spent the past four years of my life with you all, devoting myself to the building up and nurturing of this community. Transitions are difficult. Marilyn Ferguson once said, “It’s not so much that we’re afraid of change or so in love with the old ways, but it’s that place in between that we fear…It’s like being between trapezes. It’s Linus when his blanket is in the dryer. There’s nothing to hold on to.” We know, however, that we can hold onto the love we have shared and a confidence that that love will continue to blossom in new ways.

I have learned a great deal in this time with you all, and we have grown together. As I leave, I ask forgiveness where I have failed you; I give thanks for all you have given me; I assure you of my love and prayers. These words come from the Franciscan farewell prayers, when a brother leaves a community (.docx version), and resonate deeply on my heart as I prepare to leave your community. Where I have fallen short, I ask your forgiveness, and where I have grown as a minister of the Gospel I give you thanks. I hope you have been as blessed as I have in this journey we have shared.

Our 9pm Christmas Even service will be my last service at Saint Giles. I will continue to hold you all in my prayers and ask for your prayers as I begin this new journey. I hope to see you at the Christmas Eve service!

“I thank my God, every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel. And this is my prayer, that love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help to determine what is best, so that in the day of Christ we may be pure and blameless, having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.”  Philippians 1. 3, 4, 9

With love, always,
