Prayer for a
Spirit of Reconciliation
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
(Attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi)
Mother Teri Gilmore
The
Rev. Teresa (Teri) Gilmore served as Interim Rector of Saint Giles Parish from
August 2010 through October 2011. She is
now serving as a Chaplain at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, San Rafael.
Mother Teri came to Saint Giles with a wealth of experience in parish work at
Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church in Sacramento and at Trinity Episcopal Church
in Folsom. An important component in her work at both parishes was working
with youth. She recently completed the Chaplain Residency program at Alta
Bates Hospital where she provided chaplain services to patients in the drug and
alcohol dependency treatment unit, as well as patients and their families
throughout the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. Prior to entering
seminary, Mother Teri worked in journalism as librarian researcher at the
Vacaville Reporter where she also wrote a weekly column for the religion
page. Her journalism career began when she was living in Venezuela in the
late 1970s and early 1980s, where she worked as a reporter for the English
language newspaper The Daily Journal. Having lived in Guatemala as
a child, she regained her fluency in Spanish, a skill that she used in her work
at Saint Matthews, where she built a thriving Spanish-speaking congregation.
In addition to journalism, Mother Teri has worked in the business world and also
as a librarian at San Rafael Public Library. Mother Teri enjoys skiing,
traveling with her husband Dick and spending her time with family.
Transcripts of Mother Teri's sermons during her pastoral ministry in Saint Giles
Parish can be found here.
